Birding with kids and Isabelline Wheatear. 1.5.2020

Today we had nice little walk in Vanhankaupunginlahti area. I took my kids with me and together we visited Pornaistenniemi grove and tower. After the tower we walked the log path towards Lammassaari, but with those two we did only a short walk.
When we arrived I heard Wood Warbler singing near the picnick place, but only shortly.
From the tower I had my first Sand Martin for the year and it was nice to see three species of swallows flying together. From the log path there is no much birds to mention, but local Barnacle Geese gave us nice show. Also Little Gulls in the area.
Here is few pictures from the trip.

Vilma and Julius from Log paths lookout place.

Little Gull from Pornaistenniemi tower.

One of many Redwings during the day.

After Julius got his daily nap we were picking up Sanni from work when I got message of Isabelline Wheatear from Viikki! I decided to go, so I dropped my family to home and I took my telescope before I left. I was about tenth person who came and bird was showing nice, but of course in distance. Soon more and more twitchers came and we started to check that l had nice distance to other birders because of Covid-19.
Anyway I heard only good things from there and everybody had their own space. I guess around hundred people saw the bird before night. This was only second record ever from Helsinki and the forst one was as far as 1989 from same area! 41st for Finland, so good bird, and lifer for me here in Finland of course.

If you watch the video of the bird, I recommend you to put the voice down, caue it was so windy.. Also that is why the video is poor and shaky. I used Mr. Yoav Perlmans guidance and I stabilaized the video, but it was only a little help this time. Let´s see what kind of quality this blogger would how it.

Twitchers. This was when I was walking away from the scene.

Isabelline Wheatear.

Later evening we were out with the kids and I had quick opportunity to take few photos of the Eurasian Wigeon near by my house. Here is two pictures of smart looking male. Also Whimbler migrated over our house around seven a clock.

Eurasian Wigeon.

Same bird. Look at those colors.

More birding this sunday, I hope. Tomorrow will rain from afternoon till night, so maybe there is something good to find!
